GLSS CEO ADVOCATES AT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Massachusetts was well-represented at the U.S. Aging Policy Briefing and Capitol Hill Day in Washington, D.C., last week on April 7-9, attended by more than 300 leaders from the aging services network across the country.
Among those participating in the leadership summit was Kathryn C. Burns, CEO of Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS). “One of my most important roles at GLSS is to advocate for local elders and people living with disabilities, especially right now as we are working to ensure full funding for critical programs like Meals on Wheels and in-home services that allow people to safely age in place at home,” Burns said. “I was honored to represent our Greater Lynn community and the thousands of people we serve every day at this national event.”
Along with Burns, Massachusetts attendees included representatives of the AgeStrong Commission, Central Boston Elder Services, Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, LifePath, Mystic Valley Elder Services, Senior Connection, Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services, and Mass Aging Access. Attendees met with Senator Edward Markey and Representative Jim McGovern, as well as the offices of Elizabeth Warren, Seth Moulton, and Ayanna Pressley. The three-day event also provided opportunities for networking, education, and workshops with noted speakers on a variety of aging services and advocacy topics.
GLSS is the Aging Services Access Point and Area Agency on Aging serving people age 60 and older and people living with disabilities in Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant, Saugus, and Swampscott. Through several programs, the agency has broadened its demographic profile to serve consumers as young as age 3 and its geographic scope to include communities throughout the North Shore and Merrimack Valley.
